What projects we have done
We have a group of experienced consultants. A short preview of some of the projects they have managed is showed below.
Commercialise Horticultural inputs and technology to the lower end
of the agricultural market
Location: Zambia
This project aimed to increase smallholder farmers’ access to improved horticultural inputs such as drip irrigation, hybrid seeds, and soil analysis through locally established agro dealers in Zambia’s Copperbelt, Lusaka, and Central provinces. With support from HGT, agro dealers provided tailored solutions and extension services to farmers, enhancing productivity and driving the growth of agro shops. Key activities included the establishment of agro dealers, demo sites, training for farmers and agro dealers, and facilitating the first commercial stock.
Increased Potato Value Chain Efficiency in the Great Lakes Region
Location: Rwanda
This SDGP Project aimed to develop an efficient, connected seed and ware potato value chain in Rwanda to improve the country’s food security. The project focused on seed and ware potato farmers and strengthening their market connections. Key outcomes included a fair, sustainable value chain, increased resilience for farmers, and long-term income stability for seed potato farmers. Key activities included identifying lead farmers, installing and managing potato demos, providing training and inputs, and offering advisory services, resulting in over 50% yield increases and knowledge sharing with over 33,000 participants.
HiFarm
Location: Kenya
The project aimed to increase maize, tea, and coffee production for 60 Kenyan farmers through climate-smart practices and flying sensors. HGT provided soil and leaf analysis with nutritional advice, while ETG delivered inputs based on these findings. HiView, leading 558 flight missions through ThirdEye, monitored the crops every five weeks, and FutureWater managed the project. The pilot’s success, with a 25% productivity boost, demonstrates the potential of data-driven agronomic extension services
Security, Protection and Economic Empowerment (SUPREME)
Location: Uganda
The project aimed to increase productivity by promoting Climate Smart practices among youth vegetable farmers in West Nile. As a result, farmers improved the quality and quantity of their produce through the use of improved seeds, better agronomic practices, and post-harvest handling, enabling them to secure higher market prices and increased income. This initiative also fostered a positive attitude towards farming among the youth, reflected by the growing demand for improved seeds in the region.
Safe Taste Zimbabwe
The Safe Taste Zimbabwe project aimed to enhance food safety in Zimbabwe’s horticultural sector by developing a locally tailored, cost-effective protocol. Managed by Holland Greentech, the initiative involved key partners such as the Horticultural Development Council, Fairmark, Green Works Consultancy, Delphy, and Spar Zimbabwe, helping farmers produce safer food without the high costs of international certification. By improving food safety standards, the project also sought to boost farmers’ incomes and contribute to Zimbabwe’s economic growth.
